Alexandra Burke - Overcome

2009 debut album from the 2008 X-Factor winner. With a willfully mischievous glint in her eye, 21 year old Alexandra Burke is sitting on one of the hottest Pop debuts of the decade. From the rumbling first bars of her Sci-Fi Disco stormer single ‘Bad Boys’, to the Red One-fashioned Dancehall groove of ‘Dumb’, Alexandra’s A-list produced Overcome is a party monster of a record, poised to knock the socks off even the most cynical Pop enthusiast. Recorded over six months, Overcome is a collection of club smashes (’All Night,’ ‘Dumb,’ ‘Broken Heals’) peppered with astonishingly soul-bearing slow jams (’Silence,’ ‘Perfect.’) Created with the help of perhaps the industries most in demand production houses (Roc Nation and Jay-Z, The Phantom Boyz, Red One, Stargate and The Freemasons) the album is a sonic manifestation of Alexandra’s ballsy personality, with the lady herself describing the collection as ‘a beast.’ Syco.

Sade - Soldier Of Love

Soldier of Love is only the sixth studio album the band Sade have released during their 25 year career, and the first since Lover’s Rock in 2000. For Sade herself, as the lynchpin of the group’s songwriting effort, it’s a simple matter of integrity and authenticity. “I only make records when I feel I have something to say. I’m not interested in releasing music just for the sake of selling something. Sade is not a brand.”

Kanye West - VH1 Storytellers

Despite VH1 removing Kanye West’s controversial remarks on Chris Brown and Radiohead’s Thom Yorke, the remaining footage from Kanye’s Storytellers episode wasn’t without its infamy: calling himself a bitch, giving props to OJ Simpson, and dropping such Kanye-isms as “My greatest pain in life is that I will never see me perform”—actually, at this point in time, anything less would be unexpected. Audio/video coverage after the jump.

LL Cool J - All World 2

LL Cool J is an unimpeachably important figure in the history of hip-hop. He has weathered all the trends and fashions in the rap world over the last decade. ALL WORLD is a long overdue greatest-hits collection that makes a strong case for LL as one of the most consistent and innovative figures in rap, pre-dating the Death Row crew and eschewing the pimp/gangsta image that has weighed down too many rap albums in the ’90s.
